The distinctive aspects of working for a French-based company

There are several cultural differences between English-speaking Canadians and the French. At times he says their messages come across in different ways and it’s important to understand the dynamics of the French culture in relation to other cultures – the Americans for example.

“Multinational corporations must understand where Canada sits globally, if you’re going to run Canada. Sometimes it’s important to just be part of North America. Other times it’s important to distance ourselves a bit – for example the European and the French cultures can some times be more similar to Canada’s. They see Canada as more European than American.”

Johnson acknowledges that political challenges come with running a national company within a multinational. There are regional and country to country challenges to deal with. “Successful companies understand these dynamics.”
